Sponsorship Rules
Here are some basic rules for our sponsors.
We kindly ask to read them carefully and to ask for all the further details that you need, before you take the decision to become a sponsor. Thank you.
1) Duration and cost.
Since being a sponsor is a matter of giving love and attention, before money, we try to create a bridge between the sponsor and the sponsored kid.
The kid knows that someone from abroad is helping and is encouraged to establish a contact, by the means and within the limits explained below.
Therefore, we ask that you consider a three months long sponsorship at least and we require the decision to quit sponsorship to be communicated within one month of advance at least.
In this way we can prepare the kid to the end of the sponsorship, being grateful for the love and the support received and not thinking of it as an abandonment.
Of course, the longer you can sponsor a child for, the better!
Sponsorship comes to a natural end when the kid, for any reason, is no longer under Way to the Nations' legal protection.
Kids who are studying in border school and still depend on Way to the Nations, can continue receiving sponsorship.
The cost of the sponsorship is 30 € per month and it covers half of the average basic expenses, like feeding, clothing, education, staff salaries, general costs of the centre.
The average entire cost of a child in our centre is approximately 75 € per month.

Normally sponsors make their donation monthly latest by the 4th of each month.
Please feel free to contact us if you wish to give the entire amount once per year or divided into tranches.
Always remember to indicate the reason for the payment: "Name of the sponsor, sponsorship for ..", thank you.
After the first donation, sponsors will receive a sponsorship certificate, along with an introduction to the sponsored kid.
The certificate of donation having a fiscal value will be issued once per year.
2) Which kid to sponsor
All the kids need a sponsor, so it is up to you to follow your heart and choose to whom to give your love.
If you are undecided, we will be glad to help you, indicating to you one among those who we think that need more personal attention at the moment.
We admit more than one sponsor for each child and we try to have people from different parts of the world, to let the kids enter in touch with different cultures.
It might happen that we will ask you to, and suggest, another kid, different from the one you indicated; this might be if that specific kid already has other sponsors and we need some other kid who has not to get one, or if that kid has already sponsors of the same nationality.
3) Access to kids' personal information
As you might have noticed, we do not share sensitive data about the children and do not tell the public their personal stories.
This is out of respect to them.
Of course, we will give to the sponsor more details about the past of the kid, but we will not include very sensitive stories or, of course, any matter that might be related to any ongoing process before the Court.
This means that you will receive twice per year regular information and pictures about the daily life of the sponsored kids, their progress in school, the goal achieved also thanks to your help and, if it is going on, the progresses into the reconciliation with their family, but you will have very little access to their trauma of the past.
4) Personal gifts
All our kids are equal, but sponsors can have very different economic means; we therefore ask to not send any valuable object or particular thing to avoid the kids feeling different from one another.
If you want to do something extra, please coordinate with us before taking any decision.
Of course, Xmas and birthday cards as well as anything sent to the whole centre are welcome!
5) Coming to visit
On principle, we accept personal visits, although we cannot sponsor them in any form, nor we can guarantee hospitality at the centre.
You should consider this as a part of your own personal travel to Africa.
We do not have volunteer programs for people from abroad, at least for the moment.
In case you wish to do it, please take direct contact with us for any detail concerning our help to your visit, the perfect timing to come (normally during school holidays) and whatever else needed info.
In conclusion: we are glad that you are considering to sponsor one or more than one of our children and will be delighted to embrace you as part of our big family.
We appreciate your consideration for the above mentioned rules and hope that you will understand them for what they are: a form of protection and love to abused children, who need all our help to build a wonderful future.
